Power on
Connect the included power supply to the USB-C power port and press the red button next to it to switch on. The unit boots and displays a QR code. Tap the Home icon to reach the default home screen. The touchscreen and the encoder (the knob above it) control navigation and settings.
Connecting video sources
- HDMI inputs 1–3: connect cameras and video devices to the three HDMI input ports. By default, inputs 1–3 assign to Input Buttons 1–3. The device accepts any source that outputs a 1920×1080 stream.
- Input Buttons 1–4: on the bottom row. They light white when assigned, red when live (Program Output), or green when cued (Preview Output). Press to switch or preview feeds.
Connecting audio
- Combo inputs: two Neutrik combo jacks take XLR or ¼-inch connections. Enable phantom power via the Audio Mixer if your mic needs it.
- Headphone outputs: two ¼-inch outputs on the back. Adjust level by pressing the audio encoder until the headphone LED lights, then rotating to set volume.
Setting the global frame rate
Using the encoder, go to Settings → Video → Frame Rate and choose from 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94 or 60 fps. Choose one frame rate for your project and set all cameras and video devices to output at that rate for best results.

Recording & storage
- Connect an external drive to the USB 3 port. It must be formatted ExFAT. An SSD with strong write speeds is recommended for simultaneous audio and video.
- The record button shows green when ready and red while recording. If it's unlit, check for a compatible USB-3 drive in the right format with free space.
ISO video recording
Go to Settings → Multitrack → REC Video and select ISO — or in the RØDECaster App via Device Configuration → Video → Recording. This captures each of the 4 video inputs separately for individual editing.
Program quality & multitrack audio
- Program quality: choose Normal (smaller files, easy platform uploads) or High (maximum editing flexibility) in the same menu.
- Multitrack audio: Settings → Multitrack → REC Audio records individual tracks per input. Options: Pre-fader (fader position irrelevant), Bypass Processing (no effects), or Post-fader (fader affects recording).
Live streaming
Create a stream profile: open the RØDECaster App with the device on the same network, select the device, open Stream Profiles, click Add Profile, name it, enter the server and stream key from your platform, and Save.
Go live: tap the section below the audio level meters on the home screen, select the profile via Profile, then tap Go Live and confirm with the green tick. End the stream by tapping the elapsed-runtime button and confirming.
Security note (RØDE): "Your stream key is unique to your account, so treat it like a password and don't share it around."

Reaching the audio settings
- From the home screen, tap the bottom-right icon or click the encoder to open the audio mixer.
- Use the encoder to cycle through inputs; click it to adjust the selected input's volume.
- Tap the top-right icon on an input page to open VoxLab audio processing (simple, slider-based).
- For granular control, in the RØDECaster App Audio Mixer click an input's icon → Processing → Advanced.
The processors
- High-Pass Filter: cuts low frequencies below a threshold to reduce rumble, muddiness and background noise.
- Three-Band Parametric EQ: boost or cut bass, mid and treble at any frequency range you choose. (To reduce boominess, cut the low band.)
- Compressor: evens out level — compressing peaks and lifting quiet parts so a voice sounds smooth and balanced.
- Noise Gate: suppresses steady background noise such as air conditioners or traffic.
- Big Bottom™: adds depth and low-end punch through harmonics without muddiness. (Adds bass — leave off if you want less.)
- Aural Exciter™: adds sparkle and clarity by enhancing high-frequency harmonics.
- APHEX master compressor: modelled after the APHEX Compellor; affects the entire output to "glue" all channels into a balanced mix.
