Blue Microphones — the Yeti, the Snowball, and a streamer empire

Founded in 1995 in Latvia (yes, really) and now owned by Logitech, Blue Microphones built the most-recognized USB microphone in the world: the Yeti. The Yeti and Snowball are the mics that millions of first-time streamers, students, and Zoom-callers reach for.

What they make

USB-first, with a serious studio side too

Blue is best known for the USB microphone end of the market — the Yeti in particular is one of the bestselling computer mics ever made. But before the streamer era, Blue made (and still makes) high-end XLR studio condensers like the Bluebird and the Bottle Rocket: serious, expensive, character-rich.

Logitech’s 2018 buyout pushed Blue further into gaming and streaming, where the brand fit naturally — bright colors, simple plug-and-play, distinctive shapes.

Should you buy one?

The short answer

Get a Blue if You want one cable to your computer, you don’t want to learn what an audio interface is, and you want a mic that just works for Zoom, streams, and casual recording. The Yeti has earned its reputation.
Skip Blue if You record in an untreated room. The Yeti is a condenser — it picks up everything: keyboards, fans, traffic. A dynamic mic like the Shure MV7+ is a better choice for an echoey or noisy space.
